Almost next to every church in Flanders is a Christmas shed, which is sometimes illuminated. Herewith they want refer to the birth of Jesus in a manger in a barn, because there was no place in the inn. They give it light to show that Jesus is the light in the darkness. So in the barn, Jesus lies in a manger where his parents Mary and Joseph standing around. They are not only in the barn, because these are visited by the three kings: Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar. |
King Filip speech
King Filip gave a speech to the Belgian people. In this speech, he talked a lot about all the refugees who are coming from Syria and other countries to Europe. Subsequently, the King wished us a warm Christmas and the best for 2016.

Christmas Tree
Most Belgians put a Christmas tree in their house to make it more cosy and to remind everyone that Christmas is coming. In Belgium, we put thet Christmas tree a few weeks before Christmas. On the picture above, you can see Celine’s Christmas tree.

Christmas Market
In all the big cities in Belgium there are Christmas markets during the month of December. There are lots of different little chalets where you can buy different things for example you can buy jewelry, food and drinks ( for example jenever a Belgian liquor), but you can also go ice skating or go on the ferris wheel. It’s really fun to do and it get’s you in the christmas spirit.
