Kom op tegen Kanker - Fight against Cancer
Kom op tegen Kanker. - Fight against cancer.
In avril of 2015, a student of our school and a friend of ours got diagnosed with leukemia. This year, our school decided to do something to help the organisation ‘Fight against cancer’. This organisation raises money for research to help cure cancer. In our school, we set up a number of activities to raise money.
First, our school organised a football game to raise money. A team of pupils played against a team of teachers. The whole school was watching this game and there were hotdogs for sale. It was nice to see and cheer for our favourite team. The teachers won and we raised a lot of money.
Next, we composed a cycling team of students and teachers who train to ride 125 km each. In total, each team will cycle 1000 km. That is why this activity is calles “1000km against cancer”. To participate in the activity, the teams need to raise a mininum of money for the organisation “Fight against cancer”. A part of this money came from us, the last year students. When we organised a party for our 100 days, we had a lot of profit and we gave a part of this profit to the organisation.
The bicycle tour will pass by our school on sunday and we will do something to encourage them.
Finally, the circus team of our school did a marathon of 24 hours non-stop circus. They even did this during the night. People could come to our school to check this out or they could follow on a livestream. People could sponsor our circus team by buying cards to raise money.

Madagascarproject
Our school collaborates with a school in Madagascar, we have a lot of contact with them and we support them on a lot of ways. For example, sometimes our teachers go there or their teachers visit our school, so the teachers are able to exchange their experiences and they get to know each other better. We also contact students from Madagascar by writing letters to each other. We can learn more about their life and culture that way.
Our school organizes a lot of activities to support the project. Once a year there is a “sobere maaltijd”. During the lunch at school we can eat a meal that consists of bread and soup. This meal is very basic but it makes us aware of what some people have to eat every day. There also is a quiz: “the MADAquiz” and most of the profit is used to support the school from Madagascar. I participate in the quiz as well this year.
A few years ago we have sent some school desks and other useful school equipment to Madagascar and they were very grateful.
Our school also helps us to learn more about their culture. During the Year, it is possible to buy products from Madagascar and there are lessons in djembe.
