Us: Guylian, Mathilde and Felix will talk a bit about our favorite and least favorite subjects in school. We will also talk a bit about teachers and other stuff.
My favorite subject would be chemistry. don't get me wrong, some subjects of the course can be really boring. But overall i think this is the most interesting course. I like the theory behind molecules and atoms and reaction equations. Practica are very fun and a fun way to apply the subject matter.
My least favorite subject is definitly French. I don't like the process of learning the language. although I know that Dutch is a very difficult language, I do think French is a very hard language to learn. So: ce n'est pas pour moi!
Because chemistry is my favorite subject, I got to interview our teacher Ms. Snauwaert. Here you'll find the interview.
1) Why did u choose to study chemistry in the first place?
When I was a child, I wanted to be a teacher just like my mom. Growing up, I forgot “my childhood dream job”. Upon graduating, I was faced with the next big step in live: going to university. I had no idea what I wanted to study or become in life. In summer, I started going through all the info brochures of universities and university colleges, hoping to find a suitable educational program. After eliminating a series of areas, I was left with biochemistry, chemistry and architecture. 3 subjects I would love to study. When choosing, I never stopped to think what the job possibilities for the different subjects were. Finally, at the end of august, I choose chemistry. Mainly because I was passionate about the course in high school and I always thought the practical work was a bit similar to cooking which I also love.
2) What is your favorite part about giving chemistry lessons?
My favourite part of teaching chemistry is watching pupils grasp chemistry and being happy that they finally understand it. And off course the practical work. What is cooler than turning cupper coins into silver or gold?
3) If you weren't teaching Chemistry, what other class would you teach?
Probably another science class like physics. Definitely not French or German. I think those classes are way to difficult.
My favorite subject is history. Right now we are learning about fundamentalism and how terrorist groupes began to form. I think the subjects that we have seen this whole year are very interesting. I realy like the way that the teacher explains everything. She also gives a lot of interesting extra information. During the lessons she also uses a lot of video material.
My least favourite subject is math. I don't always understand everything but the teacher is very patient and will explain things multiple times. I'm not that good at math. So I don't like it very much.
Ms. Saelens, our history teacher
3 questions we asked Ms. Saelens:
If you couldn't become an history teacher what would your 2nd dream job be?
Difficult. A social job, something where I could work with people. I don't know it really, I questioned myself this question very often but I still don't know. Maybe a tour guide.
What is your favorite subject to teach? Why?
The Cold War, because upon this day we still see certain things that came from that war and it formed the world as we know it today. And renaissance also it is art innovative and it changes the world.
What is your worst fear and your proudest moment?
Having no money, wait (laughs) losing my family is worse. And that I am going to move out to another place.
Guylian
My 2 favorite subjects are English and history. I really like the language English, I use it everyday and I learned the language by watching lots of movies and by listening to a lot of music,... So I already know a lot about English so it's easy to follow in the class but ofcourse I am always open to new things that I don't know yet. I am also really interested in history all the things that happened in the past that got us to this moment right now interests me a lot. I am also interested in the mytholigcal creatures that are created by human being. (I have done 4 years of Latin and I have read some amazing and fascinating stories about creatures,monsters,beasts,... that I have never heard of. I said this because I don't do Latin anymore and I think personally that history comes the closest to these stories. I am interested in such stories, that's why I watch also a lot of movies and series. And I hope I can do something in the future arround this all. Also really like my history teacher. (Ms. Saelens).
My least favorite subject is French. I mean like I can speak French and write it, I am not that bad with it. I use French even in my spare time to talk to my French friends. But I still am not as good as the other students in this class and that annoys me always. I can't follow as fast as the others also. And if there is an oral test then the stress is real (present). That's why I don't like it so much. 3 more questions we asked Ms. Saelens:
When did you know you wanted to become an history teacher? And was it always your dream to become a history teacher or did you wanted to become something else?
I realized it when I did my internship, I started doing the internship with the idea of I can try it out and if I don't like it i quit but I liked the internship so much that I decided to become a history teacher. I always said that I never wanted to teach, I didn't really know what I wanted to do as work. I had the idea of doing something with arabic but my parents didn't allowed it. I really liked history but I would rather have wanted to work in a museum or work in an archive.
What interests do you pursue outside the classroom?
Travelling, learning languages, going out with friends, festival,...
List 5 adjectives that your students would describe you as? Describe your teaching style.
Chill, Chill (laughs), friendly, sweet, patience and respectful.
